As we go into lockdown, we would like to update you regards security during this time. All CPF and Neighbourhood Watches are “grounded”, subject to the same lockdown conditions as the rest of the general public. That does not mean our hands are completely tied – it does mean though, we have to operate a bit differently to the norm.
Allsound will be working as normal. Their alarm monitoring, response, camera monitoring, and general observation + reaction will be operational per normal.
Together we expect that criminal activity will not fall away completely, but it should reduce significantly (only because perps can be detected much more easily if/when moving around).
We are fortunate in our PHCA area to have the best CCTV network in Knysna, with a significant portion aided by Artificial Intelligence. This network will be instrumental in our efforts during lockdown (particularly one of our two new installations). Together with Allsound, we are also looking at additional possibilities with regard to extra provisions during this time. Keep in mind though that resources are limited.
You the resident can assist in our overall protection. More than ever before, we need your eyes and ears. Stay aware of your direct surrounding area, and keep an eye out for any abnormal movement or activity, both day and night. If you see or hear anything suspicious, please report it on the OWLS WhatsApp group (or direct message Loryn or Ray) – we will be monitoring it extra closely.
Please all take the time to think of your neighbours, particularly elderly or fragile persons who may need assistance – offer to help them with shopping and give them your number to call if they have ANY problems. Stay in touch with your friends and households around you – it will help with everyone’s sanity, but more importantly, it will serve as an early warning trigger if anyone is battling to cope. Call us if help is needed.
Be safe people and remember, do the right thing at all times – let’s flatten this curve together!
